      the environment

We work hard to reduce the energy used on our farms and our dependence on fossil fuels. Our barns are energy efficient. The grains fed to our pigs are produced, stored, and milled into feed on the farm so the process and ingredients are always local. Our pigs are processed at a nearby plant, so animal transport distances are short.

Water is a precious resource. Our farms have special drinking fountains for our animals to provide fresh, clean water while reducing the amount of water that is wasted. The cooling systems in our barns recycle water. Our barns are designed with self-cleaning floors that require less water to clean. Our processing plant uses air chilling instead of water chilling to cool down the meat before it is cut, packaged, and shipped.

Our farms use the manure from the pigs as a natural fertilizer. Our farmers replenish the ground with organic materials, avoiding the need for chemical fertilizers, which require huge amounts of energy to produce. We improve the ability of soil to hold water through minimal tillage practices and natural fertilizers.

Our farms have been part of their local communities for generations. They shop, bank, and cultivate relationships with local businesses. By buying our pork, you are creating and supporting sustainable rural communities.
